must include a title page, introduction, and reference page- one reference must be “Why Evolution is True” by Jerry Coyne
This is a 10-page essay in which you will reflect upon each of the chapter themes in Why Evolution Is True. It should include reflections on your development
and understanding of what evolution is and is not. It should include your personal journey of discovery related to the concept of evolution. It should also
include philosophical, theological, and sociological reflections as well as a demonstration of a scientific understanding of evolution. Additionally, you should
critique and evaluate the ideas presented in the book using your scientific understanding of the process of evolution.
It is really an extended book report where you prove evolution, using the concepts in each chapter of the book. You should not quote the text but use your
own words to explain how each concept leads to scientific proof of evolution. So, you describe natural selection, for example, and then explain how it
presents proof of evolution. Go chapter by chapter, using the concepts I listed each week, and explain these concepts along with a descriiption of how each
contributes to proving evolution.
The practical or how to go about writing this paper: You should write this paper on a week to week basis. Write in your own words. Divide the paper up into
chapters with Chapter 1, Chapter 2, as headings. Finish the paper with a conclusion.
At the end of the first week of the course you will have read the introduction and the first chapter in Why Evolution is True. Write the first section of your paper
on this introduction and chapter one. Use a heading of Introduction and Chapter One. Do this at the end of week one. Summarize what was presented in
those sections of the text leading to the overall conclusion of ‘why evolution is true’.
Continue each week like this writing a ‘detailed book report’. Your goal is to show how the science adds up to proving evolution.
