Treatment of a Young Man with New Onset of Asthma
Instructions:
A 23 year-old male presents to the clinic with a complaint of cough and shortness of breath. He notes waking at night 3-4 times a week with cough and wheezing. He also notes abrupt onset of cough and shortnesss of breath when exercising at the gym in the last few weeks. He has seasonal allergies to pollen. He has chronic eczema. He does not smoke. Spirometry demonstrates reversible airway obstruction and the diagnosis of asthma is made. Describe how you would approach treatment of this patient including medications and patient education.
