Essay (1000 words LO1)
A) Describe some of the issues and debates surrounding definitions and dimensions of health in relation to Sepsis which can cause significant morbidity
In this section you should provide a description of the main issues and debates surrounding the definitions and dimension of health in relation to Sepsis and morbidity.
You should begin by explaining Sepsis. Outline the causes, such as it being a response to an infection caused by bacteria, parasites, viruses, and fungi. You should also reflect on the severity of Sepsis and how it is potentially life threatening, and the prevalence worldwide at a general level to set the scene of what Sepsis is to the reader.
Your discussion should then move on to surround the meaning of health in relation to Sepsis. Consider definitions of health including the various approaches to defining health such as negative definitions, positive definitions, health as normality, health as deviance, functional definitions, and biomedical definitions.
How do these definitions fit in relation to Sepsis, considering the impact of Sepsis upon the individual and how it may impact upon their health?
You should also draw upon the dimensions of health such as physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social in relation to definitions of health and the condition of Sepsis. Within your discussion you should consider the WHO definition of heath and how this aligns with the disease of Sepsis.
