Getting Things Done
As a housewife and mother of 3 children, I run or manage my home while continuing my studies, care for my children, buy groceries, cook, and store food for the family. I also buy goods that the family needs for everyday life, maintain the home, and sew my clothes. Finally, I clean the rooms, wash the dishes and clothes, and take care of my children, husband, and other family members. In these hectic days, I go to the gym, then come back and do my household chores; then in the evening, I go for a walk with my family. I also have weekend professional cake baking business. While doing all house chores and I have studies, reading, writing and assignment to complete. It’s very stressful to remember all these things I need to do as my daily routine. I would forget lot of things like missed doctor’s appointments, my cake baking orders and flavors. That was very stressful. I wanted to be on top of everything while managing everything very well. Given this all, I can’t achieve my goals without being organized.
I started researching to find the ways to be organized. Then I discovered ‘’Evernote’’ app and started utilizing it by capturing my daily routine tasks. This made my life very organized and easy. I am so happy that I don’t forget my doctor’s appointment, payments and daily tasks. I can’t express how organizing myself took stress off of me. I have discovered that planning ahead is a good way to stay organized and productive. I created two planners and named them “happy planner” and a “home making” binder to help me plan. Having a plan in place and being able to look ahead can be really helpful.
Every day I coordinate my household chores and my studies to keep the balance since I need to take both side by side. I keep my both planners current and continuously update my important tasks, categorize them and assign appropriate dates, time and prioritization order. I write notes accordingly for each one of my classes, due assignments and house chores. By organizing everything now I finish assignments before the due date. I study in a special room; I choose this room so I don’t have any distractions like television or the kids playing.
The GTD system is working very well when it comes to my studies and other tasks. I integrated GTD rule in my studies when reading and writing. I do logical and organize writing with proper flow. Additionally, I have a support system from my family. Because of COVID-19, I have to take classes online and save the fall semester to take my major’s prerequisite classes. I am getting help from my professors, and the Collin College Mckinney writing center.
Everyday, in English, I create an outline and try to write at least one paragraph. First, I read what I want to write about, choose wise words, then convey my message easily. I am on Facebook, so I review social media topics and articles as well.
Organization is a key to successful life, it keeps you up to date, be on top of everything and get things done on time. It makes life easier by acting and engaging yourself with your day to day tasks on time and in routine.
