Article Critique 2: Integrative Theory in Criminology Applied to the Complex Social Problem of School Violence
Overview
Throughout this course, you will write 2 separate article critiques of peer-reviewed, journal articles. It is recommended that you use the article provided in the Reading & Study folder for the module/week in which each Article Critique is assigned.
• Article Critique 1: Interdisciplinary Education Within Biblical Theology – A Scriptural-Philosophical-Educational-Practical Overview
• Article Critique 2: Integrative Theory in Criminology Applied to the Complex Social Problem of School Violence
However, if you would like and are familiar with how to do so, you may search for an article to critique by using the Jerry Falwell Library. Your chosen article must be an interdisciplinary paper that is a scientific study or a theoretical article and it must be approved by your instructor prior to submission (email your instructor a PDF copy of the article for approval). You must choose a full article; book reviews and research notes published by peer-reviewed journals are not acceptable. Review the Article Critique Grading Rubric for additional information about grading.
Composing the Critique
The Article Critique must be 600–900 words and formatted in the current format of your declared Area of Study I. It must be composed in a Word document and include a title page and a bibliography or reference page. You should cite the article at least 6 times throughout your writing. Refrain from using large block quotes. The title page and bibliography or reference page are not included in the word count.
The critique will begin with a 150–250-word abstract that properly conveys an overview of the article. You will then write a summary of either the study’s purpose, the sample, and the method applied, or a summary of the theoretical foundation for the paper (this will depend on whether your article is a scientific study or a theoretical article). Following that, you will summarize significant findings and/or main points of the article. You must include an explanation of how the article relates to interdisciplinary studies. Finally, you should include how the article can be approached from a biblical/Christian worldview.
