Physical Items vs Digital Items
Analyze the following physical artifacts and their digital versions:
– a paperback book and an ebook;
– a paper-based map and a smartphone map.
– If you have never used a paper-based map, please see a picture here: https://store.randmcnally.com/folded-map-miami-street-map.html (Links to an external site.)
– a residence door with a doorbell and peep hole, and Apple’s FaceID (as biometric authentication methods).
For each of the three pairs of items above, answer:
What are the main concepts and metaphors that have been used for each?
How do they differ?
What aspects of the physical artifact have informed the digital app?
What is the new functionality?
Are any aspects of the conceptual model confusing?
What are the pros and cons?
For #3, use adversarial thinking to identify the tactics intruders might use to gain access to the residence/device.
