Social Work Research
This week’s discussion is due on or before midnight, 11 February 2018. It will be graded using the discussion participation rubric. As this is the second time you have used the grading form I will be generous in my scoring but not as generous as last week. (smile) For your discussion first: Watch the video https://www.ted.com/talks/hans_rosling_shows_the_best_stats_you_ve_ever_seen.html 2. Then review the tables in the Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics website. https://www.bls.gov/cps/cpsatabs.htm 3. Select any two tables you would like to compare over time. Then select one variable from each table. Choose tables and variables that have meaning for you. 4. Compare the data for the latest available year with the data for the earliest available year. If you wish, you may use a scattergram. Or you may simply create a table. The start and end dates will vary depending upon the table you choose. Date Variable 1 Variable 2 1900 Earliest Value Earliest Value 1901 In between values (one row for each value) In between values (one row for each value) 1902 …… 2013 latest value latest value The dates will differ depending upon the variables you have chosen 5. Explain Why you chose this comparison? How the comparison has changed over time. What this means for workers and the nation. You do not need to use a spreadsheet or complete a regression analysis though those of you who have are able to are encouraged to do so. A free spreadsheet is available at openoffice.org, if you wish to use it. You may attach your date/spreadsheet to your posting. Be sure to include the URLs you referred to in preparing the posting.
