Project One: Research Investigation Work
Open your Project One document and review the section in which you describe your social science issue, based on the information you found in the research investigation.
Now, consider your audience. You have already identified your audience’s connection to your social science issue. Review your background information through the audience’s eyes. What explanations will they need for technical concepts? What terminology will they need defined? Use this insight to address the remainder of this Project One prompt
ii. B. Describe how and why you can tailor your message to your audience, providing specific examples. For example, will your audience understand social scientific terminology and principles, or will you need to explain these? How will you communicate effectively with your audience?
Project Two: Presentation Work
Now, actually craft your explanation for the audience. Open your Project Two document and find the section in which you provided a brief overview of the social sciences and research question. Revise this section so that it is tailored to your audience. Incorporate the explanations of concepts and definitions that you identified in the first part of this page.
Your work to revise this section and tailor it specifically to your audience addresses these two Project Two prompts:
I. Provide a brief overview of the social scientific background of your issue and research question. How is the issue situated within the social sciences?
VII. Communicate your message in a way that is tailored to your specific audience. For instance, you could consider your vocabulary, your audience’s potential current natural science knowledge or lack thereof, and what is specifically important to the audience.
