– M5D1 (Leadership) : Leader in Action – Leadership at Hilton Worldwide Commits Heavily to Leadership Development
Case Analysis
In completing this activity, you will demonstrate the ability to analyze a case and draw lessons for leadership practice.
Cultural intelligence helps an outsider interpret gestures, emotions, and language. Cultural sensitivity is essential for inspiring others from different cultures.
Read the Leader in Action, “Leadership at Hilton Worldwide Commits Heavily to Leadership Development” on p.502 of your textbook. Then, respond to the following:
- Why would a hotel chain (and also a housing complex developer) invest so heavily in leadership development and management training? Provide at least one example to support your reason(s).
Be certain to integrate the readings and research from the online library to support your opinions. You must cite your sources in text and include multiple references in addition to the textbook for your initial response and your replies.

- Extend or constructively challenge your colleagues’ work.
Remember to read the feedback to your own major postings and reply to it throughout the module.

Check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors. When you are ready to make your initial post, click on “Reply.” Then copy/paste the text into the message field, and click “Post Reply.”
To respond to a peer, click “Reply” beneath her or his post and continue as with an initial post.
Evaluation
This discussion will be graded using a rubric. Please review this rubric prior to beginning your work. View the rubric by clicking on the gear icon at the top right side of this page or on the Course Rubrics page within the Start Here module. All discussions combined are worth 20% of your final course grade.

- Analysis of the case is comprehensive and shows application of theories.
- Application of conclusions drawn from the case to own organization is plausible.

Continue to work on your Final Project. Review the information about your selected organization and the analysis you have completed so far. Write paper presenting a plan to guide the organization out of its difficulties. The paper should have the following:
- Summary of aspects of the difficulties the organization is facing that you plan to address
- Analysis of how leadership can resolve the difficulties, supported by theory
- Description of actions you recommend for the leadership and how they will work
The paper should be two pages and in APA style. Write the paper in a Word document.
Compose your work in a .doc or .docx file type using a word processor (such as Microsoft Word, etc.) and save it frequently to your computer. For those assignments that are not written essays and require uploading images or PowerPoint slides, please follow uploading guidelines provided by your instructor.
Check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors. When you are ready to submit your work, click “Submit Assignment” in the upper right corner. Click on “Browse,” browse your computer, and select your file. Click “Open” and verify the correct file name has appeared next to the Browse button. Enter your comments, if any, in the Comments area. Click on “Submit Assignment.”
Evaluation
This assignment will be graded using the rubric displayed below. Please review this rubric prior to beginning your work. You can also access the rubric on the Course Rubrics page within the Start Here module. Collectively, these assignments are worth 10% of your final course grade.
Keep the following points in mind:
- Role of leadership in resolving the difficulties is plausible and is supported by theory.
- Recommended leadership actions are feasible and are likely to resolve the difficulties.
– M5, D1 (Business) This is a discussion forum where you can ask me questions related to the process improvement plan. How is it coming along? Are you struggling to develop the budget or identify the resources you will need? If so, how can I help? This is an opportunity for you to ask me and your peers for help. Asking questions in the forum benefits the group, as others may have similar questions.
In your initial response, discuss:
- The progress you have made on your process improvement plan.
- Any challenges you had when you were completing the assignments so far.
- Your approach to overcoming these challenges.
In response to your classmates, describe:
- A new and different specific strategy to overcome each challenge.
- A rationale for each specific strategy provided.
- The limitations of each strategy.
- The strengths of each strategy.
You can also use this forum to provide an update on your progress and also provide feedback on how you are enjoying the course.
Things to Remember!
- Post a 2 to 4 paragraph discussion post (300 words minimum). Justify your explanations by including in-text citations and references in APA format as applicable.
- Post your primary response on the discussion board by Thursday at 11:59 pm ET. Be sure to review your writing for grammar and spelling before posting. Read any postings already provided by your instructor or fellow students.
- Read and respond to at least two of your classmates. Remember to read the feedback to your own major postings and reply to it throughout the module.

– M5A1 Process Improvement Plan: Identifying Resources:
For this section of your process improvement plan, you will determine the resources you will require in order to successfully integrate the new process. Your resources section should include the following:
- Software
- Hardware
- Real estate
- Training materials
- Downtime due to training
- Employee payment for training
- Human capital (trainers, management, and new employees)
Be sure to provide rationale for the identified resources. You need to convince the board and stakeholders that you do in fact need these resources.
For this section of your process improvement plan, respond to the following questions.
- What should to be included in the different types of resources that you need to successfully complete this project?
- Time
- Money
- People
- How long do you plan to spend fully integrating the process, training employees, and updating all documents?
- Why do you need these resources?
- Does the company have enough financial resources to allow for the change? Review the organization’s financial statements, if it is a public organization, in order to determine whether or not this is feasible. Publicly traded organizations have financial data available to the general public that should help to accomplish this.
Things to Remember!
- Your paper should be at a minimum of 3 pages, not counting a cover page or reference page.
- Justify your recommendations by including in-text citations and references.
- Format following APA guidelines

– M5, A2 M5A2 Process Improvement Plan: Developing a Budget :
For this section of your process improvement plan, you will be creating a proposed budget. Please review the budgeting template in the resources section of this module. You will need to consider things such as paying employees, supplies, lost time, and training.
Your budget should clearly state the needed resources and how those resources will be used.
If you don’t already have a budget design, you can use the provided budgeting template.
