Identify the social norms that contribute to the specific health behavior that is associated with the public health issue.
Opioids are a class of drugs naturally found in the opium poppy plant. Some opioids like fentanyl, are made by scientists in labs using the same chemical structure (semi-synthetic or synthetic). For example, these opioids like oxycodone (OxyContin), hydrocodone (Vicodin), codeine, morphine, and lot more are used as a prescribed pain killer (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2019, February 28).
Fentanyl is a controlling synthetic opioid that is similar to morphine but 50 to 100 times more powerful. Fentanyl is a prescription drug that is used illegally to get high. Like morphine, it is a medicine used to treat patient(s) with severe pain, especially after surgery. It is also used to treat patient(s) with chronic pain who are physically tolerant to other opioids. Fentanyl tolerance occurs when you need a higher or more frequent amount of a drug to get the desired effects (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2019, February 28).
Which of the social norms would require change, and why?
As previously discussed, the responsible clinical use of prescription opioids can be a powerful tool for pain management under some circumstances. In my opinion, the constellation of policies relating to lawful access and sensible clinical decision making will help ensure opioid-related harms are minimize while providing access to these drugs for the patient(s) with appropriate clinical signs. The reviews such as supply-side strategies that include regulation of legal access to opioids for legally approved uses. Also, address the statutory rules and professional policies aimed at reducing lawful access by discouraging unnecessary opioid prescribe or promoting safe prescribing practices. Although both policies or strategies are aims at controlling access to opioids, and they focused on legal restrictions on distribution. Also, the efforts to influence the decisions of health care provider(s) as the gatekeepers to lawful access by patient(s) (Grall-Bronnec, M., Laforgue, E. J., Challet-Bouju, G., Cholet, J., Hardouin, J. B., Leboucher, J., … Victorri-Vigneau, C., 2019).
In what situations would social influence theory be applicable?
In my opinion, the approach of intervention strategies implemented at the jurisdictional level a system of lags and nonlinearities. That uses the methods of systematics questioning to project that might be expected with and without the intervention of interest. This approach has been used in a variety of contexts, include air traffic control, fisheries management, vaccination, and tobacco control, among many other essential policy domains (Grall-Bronnec, M. et al., 2019).
