This assignment is done in pairs (groups of 2 students). Each group is requested to select 2 organisations for a cross-case study and study their employee engagement strategy. The goal is to understand their policies, practices and approaches on employee engagement and whether and how they measure it. You should attempt to answer the following questions in the assignment:
1. What is employee engagement and why is it important?
2. What are possible ways to measure employee engagement?
3. How do the case organisations aim to engage their employees and how do they measure employee engagement?
4. What recommended changes do you suggest for the selected case organisations?
Use academic literature (=academic journal articles and books) critically in your report. You can use e.g. Google Scholar for finding academic journal articles. The target word count is around 4,500 words +/- 10%, excluding references.
Contents: The reports should be structured according to the following outline:
1. Introduction: 500 words
· Brief on employee engagement, what it is and why it’s important
· Brief background of the case companies
· Research task/question and approach
2. Literature review: 1500 words
3. Methodology: 500 words
· Research design, data collection and analysis
4. Case studies: 1000 words (500 words each)
5. Discussion and Conclusions: 1000 words
· Cross-case study analysis: Main findings from the case studies connected to theory
· Contribution of the research: Academic (=contribution to academic literature) and Practical (=recommendations for the case companies)
· Limitations
