QUESTIONS 1-6 Give brief detailed answers
1 – Fully describe Ritzer’s argument regarding the McDonaldization of society. Is he right? Explain.
2 – Merton argued that there are several modes of individual adaptation. Describe each of these, then explain what his typology tells about why some people
engage in deviance (such as crime). Conclude with your ideas on what might be done in terms of public policy to reduce crime in light of Merton’s
explanation for crime. The solutions(s) should reflect Merton’s theory.
3 – Fully describe the argument of the Adlers in their discussion of the gloried self. Then provide an example from today’s society to illustrate the concept.
4 – A basketball player stands at the free throw line. If she makes the shot her team wins the championship. She has a public reputation for being a great
player. How do Mead’s concepts of the “I” and the “me” apply to this situation? This will take some thought!
5 – Briefly describe Reisman’s three types of people. Then assume you are talking to someone from another country who knows nothing about the United
States. Which of the three types of people would you describe to this person in trying to convey what people in the United States are like? Explain.
6 – Marx and Weber both had criticisms of capitalism. Present your well-supported view as to which theorist had the most persuasive critique of capitalism.
