Guideline for Writing a Research Proposal
Learning objectives of proposal writing exercise are
• The student, under guidance of an advisor, identifies and designs an academic research
protocol and select appropriate methods.
The length of the research proposal (sections B through F in the chart) must be between 1600 –
2000 words, printed, with line spacing of 1.5 and normal margins. The 2000 words does not
include the cover page, addendums, and references (must be no more than two pages).

INTRODUCTION:
Starts on a general level with some type of introductory remarks
before going into the details of the specific research question you
are proposing. This can be accomplished by providing a frame of
reference or a discussion of the significance of the topic in the
field.
Provide an issue or general problem that you are examining
400 – 500 words
C LITERATURE REVIEW:
The literature review is written to place your study within the
context of existing knowledge and other studies in your discipline.
Discuss what other studies have said about your research topic
and how your research relates to that of other researchers who
have written on the topic.
Clearly mention justification of your research question 700 – 900 words
D. CONCEPTUAL/THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK :
Models and frameworks are not always necessary but they can
strengthen a piece of research significantly.
Propose a conceptual model or a theory to link the findings in the
literature with the your research ideas to show the expected
contribution of the research to the topic under study
State objective(s) or research question(s) or explain hypothesis(es)
of your research (if this applies)
I have started with an example as you see
Draft of Research proposal
(Research question, protocol, data collection, methods)
Topic: Impact of socio-economic factors on childhood obesity
Research Questions
Investigate whether children belonging to higher socio-economic status are more obese than those from lower socio-economic status?
• How the socio-economic factors SEF contributing to obesity?
Sub-Questions
• Comparison of children from families with high and low SES in one specific country?
• What is the role of parents in Childhood obesity?
• Explore, obesity occurrence among children under 10 years beloning to families with different socio-economic status?
• How new trends of Food contributes to Childhood obesity?
• How does father income contributes in developing obesity among child?
Aims and Objectives of the Study
• To examine the factors that cause childhood obesity such as, fast food intake, digitalised era, in which child lives and lack of physical activity
• The study for childhood obesity in Australia will be gathered by support of DHS data and other research papers as secondary research
• To identify the role of socioeconomic status in causing obesity among children
• To provide strategies by recommendation to reduce the rate of childhood obesity
Method of Data collection
The qualitative study will include the secondary data, such as, study from previous researches. While, the Quantitative method will be used to conduct this study. The total number of participants will be 100. The DV and IV are presented below among which the survey revolves around.
Statistical analysis
The corelation test will be used for analysing survey through SPSS. The histogram and Bar chart will be used for analysing data.
Secondary data
The secondary research method will be used by using Demographic and Health Surveys ( DHS data ) it is used due to being easier and simple to access. DHS will provide a data by collecting and disemminating accurate data.
Resources of Data collection
The secondary data is defined as the data that is collected through external sources and by DHS prrogram. The common sources for retrieving data involves censuses, information gathered by government authority department, and organisational record while, data was collected for various aims and objectives (Day, 2018). The secondary data, including published materials involves various websites and sources. It include Drugs.com, Healthline, Demographic and Health Surveys and other sites.
The secondary data for research of obesity among under 5 age children in Australia will be carried out because it is observed that increased rate of obesity among children in studied in Australia and I think it is mainly contributed to increasing of fast food intake as well as other factors such as food habits and lack of nutrition literacy, lack of exercise in addition to the impact of advertisements (Pollard, 2019). We can measure if there is increasing in obesity between school children in Australia thereafter we compare it with percentages of obesity in LICs of obesity in low income countries according for example to WHO.

But l need help to complete this one or writing a new one about childhood obesity among children under 5 years to examine prevalence of obesity among children under 5 years beloning to families with low and low income. We will use secondary DHS data, and you can choose any country.
I will write some writing to clarify:
Research Question
What are the socio-economic factors ( SEF ) contributing to obesity childhood.
Aim : to examine ( SEF ) correlated with besity among children under 5 years beloning to families with different income ( low, high .
Objectives :
. To discover any association between different socio-economic status and outcomes ( childhood obesity ).
. To further analyse and investigate the found association(s) between these SEF and childhood
obesity.
METHODS
Study design: This cross-sectional study is based on secondary data from Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS ) program. Technical support for the survey was provided by the DHS program. Additional support was also
provided by the UNICEF and The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) (71). No need to do a primary data.
2.2 Study setting and collection , criteria of inclusion and exclusion, study population and sampling , sample size , variables ( dependent and independent variables and its correlation. ( please try to avoide causing, impact and affect ).
Statistical analysis
Data management
The software used to carry out all statistical tests along with descriptive data presented in this thesis was
the statistical program R commander, version 3.4.1. The confidence level of 0.95 was set for all
conducted statistical tests. Both outcome variables and determinant variables were categorical variables.
One of the objectives of this study is to investigate any association between different factors and
childhood obesity thus Pearson’s Chi square test was run in order to discover any association between
the determinant variables and the outcome variable. Generalized logistic regression or multiple linear regression was done to
investigate the association between the independent variables and the outcome. Bivariate logistic analysis
was performed for each of the independent variables and the outcome variable. Variables with significant
association in the bivariate analysis were included in the multivariate analysis. Crude and adjusted odds
ratio were reported with 95% confidence interval (CI). Please note that l try to describe what should be done and you can arrange your writing.
Ethical considerations : For example :
All questionnaires and procedures for the DHS data have been reviewed and approved by Inner City
Fund (ICF) Institutional Review Board (IRB). This makes the 2014 EDHS complies with the United
States Department of Health and Human Services obligations for “Protection of Human Subjects” (45
CFR 46). The 2014 EDHS was conducted following standard ethical guidelines established by Helsinki
Declaration (75). It includes
promoting respondent’s best interest, dignity and protecting the respondent’s
privacy.
Results.
In the research proposal you should use graphs, schedule if needs.
The research proposal is a quantitative research with Secondary DHS data.
Please you note that l try to explain more to understand the details well, but the guidline :

G. TIMELINE AND WORK PLAN
Describe the work plan timeline, which shows how you plan to
