Andy Goldsworthy is a British-born artist who works with materials from the natural world, quite often in a playful, ephemeral way. For this assignment, you will first view my intro lecture on Goldsworthy, then watch a PBS News Hour special about a particular project of his at Kansas City’s Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
When you are done watching both of those videos, I would like you to reflect upon two ideas:
1. What are the possible “meanings” of a circle in your (our) understanding of the natural world? How does the circle, either literally or metaphorically, tell us a story of how nature functions?
2. How does a wall (metaphorically) reinforce or contradict your ideas about how the natural world works?
There is no requirement for the written length of this assignment, though I imagine devoting a paragraph or two to each of the two questions, one page max.
