Following the guidelines given, write a short paper on one of the following topics. Remember to narrow or expand the topic for the assigned length. Your essay should have a thesis, making a point that the examples will illustrate and support. It should be written in an academic tone. This paper should be between 800 and 900 words (about 3 typed pages double-spaced). Possible topics: X is the best movie, book, musician/ group etc because… (choose one) X is the best/worst sports organization, business organization etc because… (choose one) Should the government fund certain aspects of the arts? Should smartphones/ computers be allowed in classrooms? Use examples to explain why a certain policy should be effected, maintained or revised (e.g, employment insurance, education reform, tax reform, health care…). By providing examples, show why the federal or provincial government has/ has not been proactive in its leadership role in a given crisis/ policy. Most readers like to have concrete examples to help them grasp abstract ideas. Using examples also helps you to support your conclusions in academic papers. Always introduce and comment on the examples you use. Do not assume the reader will immediately see their connection to your main ideas.
